A full day of sightseeing the Fes Medina (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) by visiting the beautiful 14th-century Medersa Bou Anania, (Medersa meaning theological college.) On now to the renowned tanneries on the bank of the Oued Fez. Despite the strong smell, it is one of the most picturesque souks in Fes. The Medina is encircled by an unbroken line of ramparts and gates. A full-day tour of Fes includes La Madrassa Attarine, Nejjarine fountain, and the mosques of El Karaouyine, Medersa Bou Inania, and Bab Bojloud.
After your breakfast head to Merzouga, passing Ifran, known as the Switzerland of Morocco to enjoy its beauty, take pictures, then head to Azro to see the Monkey troupes (if not hiding), to then arrive in Midelt, have dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
In the morning after breakfast, drive to Merzouga bypassing the Ziz Valley, Rachidia, and Rissani, and have lunch on the road. When the landscape begins to change to sand-strewn roads, Merzouga is near. You will take camels to the campsite which is approximately 1 hour away. While crossing the golden sand dunes notice the hues of umber and amber all around you. Once you have arrived at your tent, relaxed and refreshed, prepare yourself for a sunset like never before, an evening of flavourful Amazigh food, eaten traditionally in a tent, musicians by campfire and star gazing.
Wake up to climb the sand dunes and see the sunrise by riding camels back to the Hotel or return to your tent, for a shower and breakfast, then start on the road to the Dades Valley. Where there are Argan trees there are goats. The argan leaves for goats, are what chocolate is to most of us. They go bonkers for it, and they will assume any position possible to retrieve them. Luckily, it is hard to cross Morocco without spotting their hilarious hi-jinx in the trees. It is priceless. Arriving in Essaouira, you will have free time to enjoy this lovely and funky windy city. Time to explore its easy navigable Medina to do some shopping, quite different than the wares you’ll find in Marrakech or Fez. You also cannot miss the Bastion of Essaouira.
