Start the day after breakfast. You will be collected from your hotel in Casablanca, and we will slowly make our way to Chefchaouen passing Rabat (Morocco’s capital), and visit the Hassan Tower, and the Kasbah of the Oudayas. The Kasbah was named after an outpost of mercenaries from the Oudaya tribe that originated in Rabat. The Kasbah was built in the 17th century. The best spot for lunch would be in the seaside town of ASILAH which was founded in the 2nd century BC and was once Spanish territory. A beautiful whitewashed bohemian town consisting of artisans and musicians, you can have a delicious Spanish-influenced lunch of paella for example, and continue the drive to the magical town of Chefchaouen. Two last stops before arriving at our destination. HERCULES GROTTO and CAP SPARTEL.
The first consists of limestone caves, which have 2 openings. One is for the sea, and the other is for the land.. From the sea, the opening appears to be shaped like the continent of Africa. In Classical Greek mythology, Hercules was thought to have rested in these caves. Many prehistoric remains have been found as well. CAP SPARTEL is a promontory with wonderful views of the Strait of Gibraltar. Arriving in Chaouen (as is called locally), we drop you off at your accommodation. Make note of The Rif Mountains surroundings you on two sides known as JEBEL ECH CHAOUEN (Horned Mountain).
In the morning, after you’ve taken a stroll at the top of the Medina, you will see many wrought-iron balconies, decorative cornices, and solid wood carved doors along the narrow winding streets. On market days, many are out with their wares and colorful produce for the local's shopping day. Fez is next, with a stop first at the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. Then on to Meknes (Meknassa EZ Zitoun,” Méknes of the Olive Trees”) founded in the 9th century. You will visit the Great Mosque, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, Bab al-Mansour, the holy town of Moulay Idriss, and grab lunch in town. We arrive in Fez for your overnight accommodation.
After your breakfast we leave Fez and drive to Merzouga, passing Ifran, known as the Switzerland of Morocco to enjoy its beauty, and take photos, then head to Azrou where you may see the Berbery Macaque Monkeys. We will never intrude on them but enjoy them from a distance. Continuing the drive passing Midelt and the ZIZ Valley, lunch in Midelt or grab a baguette and some cheese from a local grocer to eat on the road. Arriving in Merzouga, take Camels or 4×4 to cross the golden sands and see the magical sunset. Overnight and dinner in Berber tent under a canopy of starry skies.
Wake up to climb the sand dunes and see a splendid sunrise by riding camels back to the hotel for a shower and breakfast. We then take the road to Ouarzazate, your home for the night. First passing Erfoud, Jorf and Tinjdad. A visit to the Todra Gorge where the narrowest section is amazing with towering walls of rock 980 feet high and only 65 feet wide, truly an awesome sight. Lunch on the road or in Tinerhir. After exploring a bit, we will continue the road to Ouarzazate by passing the Dades Valley, Roses valley, and Skoura. Arriving with time to relax and enjoy a dinner in the Riad. Overnight at your accommodation in Ouarzazate.
